Analysis and appraisal of freight generation characteristics; final report, part 1: data report

ARRB Project 302 - analysis and appraisal of freight generation characteristics was undertaken to examine in detail the freight generation characteristics, location decisions and location perceptions of individual key operators of freight facilities in Melbourne by collecting quantitative data on various, policy related aspects of their operation and on their attitudes to an exhaustive list of factors influencing freight facility choice. This report is concerned with the data collection phase of p302. The sampling framework used to derive a sample of forms for interviewing, was obtained from vrta records and from business directory listings and the composition of the actual sample obtained is reviewed. The development of the questionnaire is traced and the coding procedures documented. Copies of the pilot study questionnaire and the final questionnaire are included in the report as appendices (a).
