CRITIQUE OF HOME-INTERVIEW TYPE O-D SERVEYS IN URBAN AREAS

HOME INTERVIEW SURVEYS ARE ANALYZED FOR INHERENT DEFECTS, AND A PROGRAM FOR THE FUTURE IS PROPOSED. MORE DATA ARE NEEDED FROM THE INTERVIEWS SUCH AS TRAVEL DISTANCES AND TRAVEL TIMES ALONG ACTUAL ROUTES, TOLLS AT BRIDGES, TUNNELS AND HIGHWAYS, PARKING FEES IN NON-RESIDENCE ZONES AND ON HAZARDOUS ASPECTS OF ROUTES SUCH AS DIRECT LEFT TURNS, CLOVER LEAF LEFT TURNS, PARKED CARS, AND PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS. IN THE FUTURE, PEOPLE WILL PROBABLY BE INTERVIEWD IN AREAS WHERE PEOPLE ARE CONCENTRATED, HOME-INTERVIEW O-D DATA WILL BE RE-ANALYZED, AND COLLECTION AND COMPILATION OF A MINIMUM OF DATA ON INDEPENDENT FUNDAMENTAL TRIP DETERMINANTS FOR SMALL ZONES WILL BE INAUGURATED ON A CONTINUING BASIS.
