Methods of testing soil for engineering purposes, part C - soil classification tests, AS 1289.C6.1-1977, determination of the particle size distribution of a soil - standard method of analysis by sieving

This method covers the quantitative determination by sieve analysis of the particle size distribution in a soil down to the 75 micrometer sieve. By using this method the combined silt and clay fraction can be obtained by difference. For particle sizes smaller than 75 micrometer the sedimentation method described in AS 1289.C6.3, Using a hydrometer to secure the necessary data, applies. Separate sections relate to particle size limits, apparatus and reagent, procedure, calculations and reporting of results.
