Maintenance procedures - sealed roads

Ideally, maintenance would ensure that a road always functioned as efficiently as when it was first constructed. However, this is impracticable and all road authorities must accept a lesser level of serviceability which is commensurate with the financial and manpower resources that are available. It should be the aim of all those connected with road maintenance to provide the highest level of serviceability possible within the resource limits. A planned program of preventive and remedial maintenance will assist to achieve this aim and is an essential prerequisite to the actual maintenance function.
