Use of minicomputers in interactive bridge design

This paper describes the philosophy underlining the move to an in house minicomputer system, giving the reasons for the move and the alternative options considered. Factors determining the selection of equipment and the establishment of the system for interactive bridge design are discussed, and mention is made of the potential problems to be expected in implementing such a system. Finally a summary is presented of some of the more significant programs used by the bridge section design staff.
