Coordinated traffic signals and area traffic control

This paper describes the traffic signal coordination schemes available and their effects and advantages as well different types of systems already in operation. Also detailed are the design factors to be considered: roadway factors, traffic management policies; traffic factors, signal equipment and geometric factors. A description is given of the Country Roads Board scram project and the introduction of the scats system to Melbourne.
