A behavioural study of freight facility location

This paper presents an exploratory behavioural analysis of freight facility location in Melbourne, for a sample of freight sector firms. Using a simple deterministic model structure the paper describes the derivation of two explanatory attitudinal models of freight facility location choice. The conventional model calibration approach of using observed behaviour as the dependent variable is then compared with using the firm's stated location preferences; the latter approach yielding a location preference rather than a location choice model. This distinction is shown to be an important one and a number of implications are discussed (a).
