Bruce highway (Brisbane-Gympie) - Bribie Island interchange

The Caboolture Bribie Island road interchange was opened as a two lane two way highway on 5th December, 1978. It cost approximately $1,280,000 and formed part of a $4,000,000 project to upgrade the Bruce highway to four lane divided standard between Burpengary and the Bribie Island turnoff. This project was opened to traffic on the 9th August, 1979, by the Minister for Local Government and Main Roads, the Honourable R.J. Hinze. Priority was given to the construction of the interchange because of the poor accident record of the old at-grade intersection between the Bruce Highway and the Caboolture Bribie Island road. The heavy traffic densities on the highway, and between Caboolture and Bribie Island, especially on summer holiday weekends, made it increasingly difficult for traffic movements at grade.
