Microprocessors extend cableless linking and vehicle detector functions

At the IEE's second international conference on automotive electronics in London last month, Hartley, FT and Hedley, GR, from the Department of Communication Engineering, La Trobe University, Australia, described the application of microprocessors to two aspects of traffic management: a remotely programmable traffic signal coordination unit; and an inductive loop vehicle detector which can be configured to emulate existing detectors or to provide additional traffic information over a communication link.
