FORECASTING TRAFFIC WITH A MODIFIED GROWTH FACTOR PROCEDURE

THREE METHODS OF TRAFFIC PROJECTION WERE USED TO FORECAST TRAFFIC NEEDS FOR MEMPHIS, TENN TO 1975 LEVELS /1/ THE JUDGEMENT-APPLIED FACTOR METHOD, WHICH USES THE BEST OF THE AVERAGING METHOD AND THE FRATAR METHOD, /2/ THE AVERAGE FACTOR METHOD, AND /3/ THE FRATAR METHOD. THE ORIGIN- DESTINATION /0-D/ DATA USED WERE OBTAINED IN 1944 AND SUPPLEMENTAL DATA WERE OBTAINED IN 1950 FROM WHICH THE EARLIER INFORMATION WAS UP-DATED TO 1950. UPDATING TO 1975 BY THE THREE METHODS DESCRIBED PROVED SATISFACTORY.
