Analysis and reduction technique of vehicle noise in anechoic chamber

This paper describes the semi- anechoic chamber test methods which provide the significant research techniques for the exterior noise analysis of heavy vehicles. The experimental results obtained by these testing facilities are very satisfactory from engineering view- points as listed below. 1) It is possible to identify the noise source contribution with high accuracy. 2) acoustic properties of noise sources and detailed effects of noise reduction treatments can be examined by drawing the noise level distributions. 3) Primary factors, which influence the vehicle radiated noise, such as ambient temperature, humidity and etc, are well controlled and fair sound pressure levels without much variability can be obtained. 4) Individual bench test is closely correlated with actual road test by pass- by noise simulation in anechoic room. Through these test procedures, heavy duty cars have been developed very efficiently by reducing the noise level of 3-5 db(a) to meet the new noise control regulation for 1979 (a).
