Elastic consolidation around a deep circular tunnel

A method of analysis is presented for the consolidation of a linear elastic soil due to the cutting of a long and deep circular tunnel. Solutions have been obtained for the time dependent displacements and stress changes occurring in the soil surrounding the tunnel opening (a).
