The performance of road pavements in the act

In brief no e9/78, forwarded on 16 February 1978, the National Capital Development Commission asked the Department of Housing and Construction to carry out an investigation into the causes of widespread pavement distress in act roads. This arose from previous work by the department which included surveys of the condition of road pavements and a review of pavement design procedures. This report summarises the findings of the investigation and outlines the implications for road design and construction practice in the act. As a result of the investigation, pavement design procedures issued in interim form in 1979 are now able to be refined and published as a design manual. It is clear that closer attention is necessary to some aspects of design and construction in order to promote adequate pavement performance.
