Applicability of regression analysis to investigate the influences on the carrying capacity of ground anchors

This paper describes the application of the multiple regression analysis on the results of fundamental and suitability tests of ground anchors performed in hannover, gfr. It has been investigated which of individual influence factors mainly contributes to the carrying capacity of ground anchors. Subsequently two equations to estimate the carrying capacity are proposed, one for anchors in granular soil and the other for those in cohesive soil. The constants of both equations including 7 influence factors in each case have been determined by means of the linear multiple regression analysis. Using a confidence level of 95 per cent the confidence bounds of the regression coefficients have been calculated. The comparison between the calculated and the measured values shows that only 5.88 Per cent respectively 3.51 Per cent of the residuals in granular soil respectively in cohesive soil are out of the 2- standard- deviation- bounds (a).
