On the telemetric firing techniques for underwater rock blasting in Japan

A telemetric firing system for underwater blasting is described as used in the construction of the honshu-shikoku bridge foundations. Among the advantages of the method are that loading of explosives is easy, no diver's wiring is needed and all of the blasting work can be controlled on board. Accordingly, it is possible to blast in deep water and / or under high velocity current. Experimental and practical results proved that the contribution of ultrasonic wave and shock switching mechanism was applicable to a wide area of underwater blasting, and safety of the system was satisfactory for the actual construction work.
