DEMAND COST, PRICE AND CAPACITY RELATIONSHIPS APPLIED TO TRAVEL FORECASTING

TRAVEL FORECASTING RESEARCH AND STUDIES HAVE RECOGNIZED THE INTERDEPENDENCY AMONG ASSIGNED OR DISTRIBUTED VOLUME, TRAVEL TIME, AND ROUTE OR SYSTEM CAPACITY. A GENERALIZED FORM FOR THE TRAVEL FORECASTING PROCESS WHICH INCLUDES THESE FEEDBACK LOOPS IS SHOWN. THE RELATIONSHIPS SET UP ARE' A PRICE-VOLUME CURVE INCLUDING THOSE ITEMS OF COST WHICH THE TRAVELER ACTUALLY PAYS, WHICH IS KNOWN AS THE CAPACITY CURVE A DEMAND CURVE WHICH IS A GRAPHICAL STATEMENT SHOWING THE NUMBERS OF TRAVELERS WHO WILL BUY OR PURCHASE TRAVEL AT DIFFERENT LEVELS OF PRICE, AND THE ITERATIVE PROCESS USED TO STABILIZE THE BALANCE BETWEEN VOLUME AND CAPACITY IS USED TO DETERMINE THE INTERSECTION POINT BETWEEN CAPACITY AND DEMAND CURVES.
