The Road Research Laboratory is a branch of the Roads and Highways Department of the Ministry of Railways, Roads, Highways and Road Transport. The laboratory which comprises three sections namely soil, aggregate, and bitumen, is primarily involved with testing materials for road construction and testing soil for pavement design and bridge foundations. The laboratory also carries out investigations into pavement failures in road construction and conducts training courses for road builders. The laboratory intends to establish regional field facilities and to improve the quality of laboratory equipment and technical manpower so as to improve the standard of construction.
