DETERMINATION OF THE CEMENT OR LIME CONTENT OF CEMENT- OR LIME-STABILIZED SOIL

THE RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE IS DESCRIBED FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE CEMENT OR LIME CONTENT OF CEMENT- OR LIME-STABILIZED SOIL BY THE EDTA METHOD AND THE FLAME PHOTOMETER METHOD. A COMPARISON OF THE THREE METHODS SHOWED THAT ALL WERE ACCURATE TO 0.2% CEMENT AND THAT THE BRITISH STANDARD METHOD WAS APPRECIABLY SLOWER THAN THE OTHER TWO. THE ETHYLENE-DIAMINETERA-ACETC ACID METHOD IS RECOMMENDED FOR MOST PURPOSES INCLUDING FIELD USE BUT WHERE MANY DETERMINATIONS ARE NEEDED AND TIME IS IMPORTANT, THE FLAME PHOTOMETER METHOD IS PREFERABLE.
