LABORATORY TESTS ON STABILIZATION OF NEW ZEALAND SOILS WITH PORTLAND CEMENT

COMPREHENSIVE SURVEY HAS BEEN MADE OF PRINCIPLE SOIL TYPES ON NEW ZEALAND AIRFIELDS FOR THE PURPOSE OF FINDING SOILS WHICH WERE BEST SUITED FOR CEMENT STABILIZATION. TWENTY-NINE LABORATORY TESTS SHOWED THAT SOIL OR SUBSOIL OF SEVEN WERE SUITABLE. CORRECTIONS WERE SOUGHT BETWEEN EFFICIENCY OF CEMENT-STABILIZING PROCESS WITH RESPECT TO SOILS AND CERTAIN PHYSICAL PROPERTIES WHICH GOVERN THEIR CLASSIFICATION INTO GROUPS.
