VIBROFLOTATION WAS DEVELOPED IN GERMANY AS A MEANS OF COMPACTING GRANULAR SOILS. IT EMPLOYS WATER SATURATION AND MECHANICAL VIBRATION TO STABILIZE SANDY MATERIALS. THE COST COMPARES FAVORABLY WITH OTHER METHODS OF FOUNDATION BUILDING ON SANDY SOILS. IT IS FAST AND EFFICIENT. THE COMPACTING UNIT IS A SPECIALLY CONSTRUCTED CYLINDER. TO LOWER THIS CYLINDER INTO POSITION, A JET OF WATER IS DISCHARGED AT HIGH PRESSURE THROUGH THE BOTTOM. AT THE BOTTOM, THAT JET IS TURNED OFF AND SIDE JETS ARE OPENED AT REDUCED VOLUME AND PRESSURE.
