Road construction contract based on AS 2124-1992

Current contracts for the construction of road infrastructure in Queensland use the Main Roads Form 12G, General Conditions of Contract. Since the introduction of the Australian Standard General Conditions of Contract, AS 2124, in 1978, there has been continuing pressure from governments and industry to adopt uniform contract conditions for all publicly funded projects. A two year research and development project undertaken by Transport Technology has resulted in the publication of the Road Construction Contract based on AS 2124-1992. This paper addresses the issues confronted in the assessment of AS 2124 for use by Main Roads and briefly discusses the differences between the Road Construction Contract and Form 12G.
