APPARATUS FOR MEASURING VOLUME CHANGE SUITABLE FOR AUTOMATIC LOGGING

DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF A SIMPLE AND RELIABLE METHOD OF TRANSFORMING THE VOLUME CHANGE IN A TRIAXIAL TEST INTO A LINEAR MOVEMENT WHICH CAN BE MADE TO OPERATE AN ELECTRONIC DISPLACEMENT TRANSDUCER. THE METHOD UTILIZES THE BISHOP SELF-COMPENSATING MERCURY CONSTANT PRESSURE UNIT. THE EXTENSION OF THE SPRING IS DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL TO THE VOLUME OF FLUID DRAINED FROM THE SOIL SAMPLE AND MAY BE MEASURED BY A DIAL GAUGE OR FED INTO A DATA LOGGER VIA A DISPLACEMENT TRANSDUCER. /TRRL/
