To skid or not to skid - tell tale tyre marks

Skidding has been found to be one of the major causes of accidents on roads. The paper provides a background to the phenomenon of skidding on straight and curved roads in dry as well as wet weather. Skid marks form an important part of forensic investigation and help an investigator to analyse and reconstruct a traffic accident. Tyre marks of various kinds, forms and shape, resulting from rolling, accelerating, decelerating, cornering and breaking are discussed. A factual example has been added to demonstrate how these tyre marks can help the investigation and reconstruction of a traffic accident.
