A PERMEAMETER FOR INVESTIGATING THE PASSAGE OF WATER THROUGH UNFISSURED SAMPLES OF PERMO-TRIASSIC SANDSTONE

THE ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE USE OF A PERMEAMETER TO EVALUATE THE WATER PERMEABILITY OF UNFISSURED ROCK, PARALLEL AND AT RIGHT-ANGLES TO THE BEDDING PLANES. IN THE TEST, THE APPARATUS MEASURES THE QUANTITY OF WATER FORCED THROUGH A CUBIC SPECIMEN IN A GIVEN LENGTH OF TIME BY A KNOWN HYDRAULIC HEAD. SPECIMENS USED WERE 8 CM. CUBES OF UNWEATHERED AND UNFISSURED SANDSTONE. THE METHOD OF WATER COLLECTION AND MEASUREMENT IS DESCRIBED AND IT IS CONCLUDED THAT PROVIDED THE STEADY STATE PHASE OF WATER FLOW CAN BE IDENTIFIED, THE RESULTS OBTAINED REFLECT THE SPECIMEN'S ABILITY TO TRANSMIT WATER.
