NEW STERNTUBE BEARING FOR SHIPS WITH CONTROLLABLE PITCH PROPELLERS
A new type of split sterntube has been designed for vessels equipped with controllable-pitch propellers in order to reduce the length of time now necessary to inspect the tailshaft and stern bearing, by making it unnecessary to remove the rudder in order to carry out the inspections. A description of the sterntube and the procedure necessary to carry out the required inspections is presented, along with a sketch showing the jacking arrangement for pressing the sterntube bearing in and out and locking it into place.
