APPLICATION OF ELECTRICAL RESISTIVITY METHOD IN VARIOUS ENGINEERING PROJECTS

THE RESULTS OF APPLICATION OF THE METHOD OF CONVENTIONAL, DIRECT CURRENT, ELECTRICAL RESISTIVITY TO MINERAL EXPLORATION AND ENGINEERING CONSTRUCTION, IN RESEARCH PROJECTS OF POLLUTION CONTROL AND OF UNDERGROUND STABILITY IN THE NORTHWEST ARE PRESENTED. THEY SERVE TO ILLUSTRATE THE VERSATILITY AND SIMPLICITY OF THE METHOD. IN THE INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECT OF A SANITARY LANDFILL ON THE HYDROGEOLOGIC ENVIRONMENT, 72 DEPTH SOUNDING STATIONS WERE CONDUCTED ON A GRID SYSTEM OVER THE ENTIRE AREA AND 11 ELECTRICAL RESISTIVITY PROFILES OF VARIOUS LENGTH WERE RUN AT KEY POSITIONS. RESULTS OF THE TESTS ARE ILLUSTRATED. CHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES CONFIRMED GEOPHYSICAL FINDINGS. THE INVESTIGATION OF IMPACT OF A MINE TAILINGS POND ON THE ENVIRONMENT GAVE RELIABLE RESITIVITY DATA. THE RECONNAISSANCE OF ANY POSSIBLE POLLUTION TO THE VICINITY OF A RIVER ARE DESCRIBED. THE SEISMIC REFRACTION DATA CONDUCTED PRIOR TO THE RESISTIVITY SURVEY CONFIRMED THE VALIDITY OF THE LATTER. THE APPLICATION OF ELECTRICAL RESITIVITY PROFILING TO DETECT FRACTURED ZONES IN A TUNNEL, GAVE RESULTS WHICH WERE CONFIRMED BOTH BY THE LABORATORY AND GEOLOGICAL DATA. IN CARRYING OUT THIS METHOD, THE ELECTRODE SPACING AND ITS INCREMENT IS OF CONSIDERABLE IMPORTANCE.
