SOIL PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTION BY A CENTRIFUGE METHOD IN COMPARISION WITH SEDIMENTATION PROCESSES, WITH DISCUSSIONS AND CLOSURE

A CENTRIFUGAL SEDIMENTATION METHOD FOR THE ISOLATION OF PARTICLES OF SOIL IN THE MICRON AND SUB-MICRON RANGE GAVE RESULTS COMPATIBLE WITH THE CURVES OBTAINED BY THE STANDARD HYDROMETER PROCEDURE. THE METHOD REDUCES TEST TIME FROM 72 HOURS TO ONE-HALF HOUR. IT HAS THE ADDITIONAL ADVANTAGE OF PROVIDING MATERIAL SUITABLE FOR SPECIALIZED RESEARCH IN THE ASSESSMENT OF GRAVEL FOR ROAD WORKS.
