This report looks at the workings of urban transport in Australia. It discusses the various modes of transport in the light of the following issues: urban transport; indicators of performance; the role of government; reforming government transport agencies; regulation and competition; pricing and investment; the adverse impacts of road use; social issues; and an integrated approach to reform. The report makes recommendations on the restructuring of the industry, more efficient pricing mechanisms, better targeted social policies, environmental considerations, and intergovernmental relations.
