Australia's land transport strategy

The Federal Government's integrated Land Transport Strategy represents an innovative approach to address long-term problems that had become inherent in the management and operations of land transport activities. The Land Transport Strategy goals are: 1) to achieve a safe, efficient and innovative land transport sector responsive to user requirements and complying with government policies on the environment; 2) to develop national policies, practices and technical regulations to improve the efficiency of road and rail transport infrastructure, operations and services; 3) to align pricing more closely with the cost of providing services, thereby ensuring greater efficiency in the use of resources and enhanced demand management; 4) to allocate public resources to land transport efficiently and fairly; 5) to implement Federal land transport programs in a cost-effective manner; and 6) to pursue actively the Federal Government's social justice and equity policies in the management and implementation of the Land Transport Program.
