RAPID METHOD FOR ESTIMATING CEMENT CONTENT OF SOIL-CEMENT AND BLENDED CEMENTS

AFTER REMOVAL OF THE SILICEOUS RESIDUES, THE ACID-SOLUBLE PORTIONS OF CEMENTS, SOILS, AND SOIL-CEMENT MIXTURES ARE NEUTRALIZED WITH AMMONIUM HYDROXIDE TO A PH OF 10. AFTER THE PRECIPITATED IRON AND ALUMINIUM SETTLES, THE SUPERNATANT LIQUID IS TITRATED WITH DISODIUM DIHYDROGEN ETHYLENE-DIAMINE TETRAACETATE WITH ERIOCHROME BLACK T AS AN INDICATOR. THIS DETERMINES BOTH CALCIUM AND MAGNESIUM. THE SAME TECHNIQUE CAN BE USED TO DETERMINE THE CEMENT CONTENT OF PORTLAND- POZZOLAN CEMENTS AND OF HARDENED CONCRETE.
