IHC VENTURI DRAGHEAD: NEW DREDGING APPROACH
The article discusses the venturi type of draghead, which can boost the output of trailing-suction hopper dredges. This new type of head has less intake resistance than the visor-type or California head, and it allows for more efficient use of the vacuum and a greater intake velocity into the aperture, as shown by full-scale tests. Turbulence is reduced, and an optional 15 degree adaptor increases efficiency at greater depths by reducing the angle of the head with the bottom.
