THE TT-RELATIONSHIP: A UNIFIED APPROACH TO TRANSPORTATION PLANNING
THE AUTHOR SUGGESTS A UNIFIED HYPOTHESIS WHICH, IF TRUE, MAY EXPLAIN MANY SEEMINGLY UNRELATED TRAVEL PHENOMENA BY A SIMPLE AND FUNDAMENTAL FORMULATION. IT IS HOWN HOW THE AMOUNT OF VEHICULAR TRAVEL MAY BE ESTIMATED RAPIDLY, HOW IT INTERACTS WITH THE ROAD NETWORK IN A CLOSED FEED-BACK PROCESS, AND HOW ALTERNATIVE POLICY ASSUMPTIONS MAY EASILY BE EVALUATED EVEN BEFORE A FULL-SCALE PLANNING PROGRAMME STARTS. ONLY VEHICULAR TRAVEL IS ANALYSED AT THIS STAGE, BUT THE HYPOTHESIS DOES, HOWEVER, SEEM TO SHED LIGHT ON THE INTERACTION BETWEEN PRIVATE AND PUBLIC TRANSPORT AS WELL. (A)
