GRAVITY MODEL CALIBRATION BY MATRIX FORMULATION

THIS PAPER DESCRIBES AN ALTERNATIVE APPROACH TO THE ITERATIVE GRAVITY MODEL CALIBRATION PROCEDURE. THE APPROACH IS BASED ON A MATRIX FORMULATION OF THE GRAVITY MODEL AND ALLOWS CALIBRATED TRAVEL TIME FUNCTIONS FOR ANY DESIRED LEVEL OF DISAGGREGATION TO BE CALCULATED DIRECTLY ON A SINGLE PASS OF THE DATA FILE. THIS DIRECT CALIBRATION APPROACH ALLOWS THE MODEL BUILDER QUICKLY TO TEST A WIDE RANGE OF DISAGGREGATION VARIABLES.
