Northern Area Regional Organisation of Councils Transportation Study: information bases for future regional transport strategies: summary report
The findings of this study provide valuable background information for future regional transport planning. The study's Steering Committee submits that key issues to be addressed by NAROC in the immediate future should include: 1) Resolution of the trade-offs between different transport options and different economic and social criteria identified during this study. 2) Compilation and assessment of passenger demand data, especially for air travel. 3) The desirability of establishing a regional air service review mechanism and a regional airport ownership authority. 4) Assessment of the implications of the predicted stability of the region's demographic and economic environment, especially in the light of rapid growth in other regions like the North Coast, potentially affecting the NAROC region's ability to attract infrastructure funding. 5) The relative significance and thresholds of economic and social criteria in determining satisfactory service levels.
