Urban network analysis techniques

This paper discusses urban transport modelling from an economic perspective and touches on several aspects of land-use/transport interaction in modelling processes. It suggests that some modelling processes can be made simpler with little loss in accuracy in order that other aspects can be explored to provide greater meaning to the modelling processes and results. This approach is relevant because there has been some tendency for recent modelling improvements to emphasise increasing detail rather than improved logic. While greater computing capacity does allow greater attention to detail, it also can be used to experiment with modelling ideas which hitherto have not been within our computing capability.
