EXPANDING A NONDEMOGRAPHIC FACTOR MODAL SPLIT MODEL

THE PROBLEM OF FOREMOST INTEREST IS THE PREDICTION OF FUTURE V/STOL MARKET SHARES IN THE FACE OF INTERMODE COMPETITION. HOWEVER, THE EXPANDED TECHNIQUE IS GENERALIZED TO INCLUDE ANY CONCEPTUAL OR NEW MODE. IN THE NON-DEMOGRAPHIC MODEL, CHOICE IS BASED ON MAXIMUM PERSONAL SATISFACTION, WITH QUALITIES SUCH AS NOISE, COMFORT, RELIABILITY, COST, CONVENIENCE, AND SAFETY WEIGHTED ACCORDING TO PERSONAL PREFERENCE. IN THIS STUDY, RANKING OF THESE FACTORS WAS BASED ON A SURVEY OF BUSINESS TRAVEL BETWEEN WASHINGTON AND PHILADELPHIA. 1985 ACCEPTANCE INDICES FOR STOL, AIRLINE, AUTO, AND METROLINER ARE GIVEN ASSUMING THESE FACTOR WEIGHTINGS WILL REMAIN UNCHANGED.
