CHOOSING THE RIGHT PILE/1

THE FACTORS WHICH MUST BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT IN THE SELECTION OF PILES ARE REVIEWED; THE IMPORTANCE OF COMBINING THE SUBSOIL INVESTIGATION WITH A SUBSITE INVESTIGATION IS STRESSED. THE SUBSOIL INVESTIGATION ESTABLISHES THE WATER REGIME IN THE GROUND, THE SUBSITE INVESTIGATION MUST REVEAL ANY UNDERGROUND FEATURES LIKELY TO INFLUENCE WORK BEING CONSTRUCTED THROUGH IT OR NEAR IT. FIELD PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE OPERATION OF THE TOTAL PLANT TO INSTALL THE PILE ARE DISCUSSED TOGETHER WITH NOISE AND VIBRATION PROBLEMS AND SPEED OF OPERATION. /RRL/
