Geotextile reinforced seals
This paper describes field trials of reinforced seals laid directly over clay subgrades in western New South Wales. The trials (carried out between 1985 and 1988) compared the use of rubber bitumen seals, and conventional and rubber bitumen seals in combination with a non woven geotextile. After a series of four trails, the oldest of which is now three years old, the techniques described hold promise for use on low trafficked roads over clay formations. At this stage, it is not recommended for use on highly dispersive clays on embankment fills unless adequate shoulder treatment is also being considered.
