ELECTRICAL SOIL STABILIZATION /IN GERMAN/

THE APPLICABILITY OF CASAGRANDE'S CLASSICAL THEORY OF ELECTR/-OSMOSIS TO A VERY CLAYEY SILT IN THE GENEVA AREA IS EXAMINED. TESTS SHOW THAT THE CLASSICAL THEORY PARAMETERS DO NOT COMPLETELY CHARACTERIZE THE ELECTROOSMOTIC BEHAVIOR OF SOILS. IN PARTICULAR, THEY DISREGARD THE ELECTRO-CHEMICAL EFFECTS. THE DEPENDENCE OF THE SHEAR STRENGTH ON THE LIQUIDITY INDEX IS PROPOSED AS A NEW PARAMETER AND SUBJECTED TO LABORATORY TESTS. PARTICULAR ATTENTION IS PAID TO THE INFLUENCE OF THE ELECTRODE MATERIAL AND THE ADDITION OF ELECTROLYTES. PROPOSALS FOR PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF THE THEORY ARE MADE. THE TRANSFER OF LABORATORY TESTS TO FIELD CONDITIONS IS CALCULATED. /VSS/FG/RRL/
