TECHNOLOGICAL PRINCIPLES FOR THE COMPACTION OF EARTHWORKS /GERMAN/

RESEARCH RESULTS, OBTAINED BY VARIOUS AUTHORS REGARDING THE INFLUENCE OF COMPACTION ON THE PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF COMPACTED SOILS ARE DISCUSSED. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT CERTAIN LABORATORY TESTS ON SOILS ARE OFTEN UNSATISFACTORY. THE MAIN FACTORS INFLUENCING BEARING CAPACITY ARE LISTED. THESE INCLUDE THE RELATION OF BULK DENSITY TO COMPACTION FORCE AND MOISTURE CONTENT, AND THE INFLUENCE OF SUBSEQUENT MOISTURE CHANGES. CHOICE OF SUITABLE COMPACTION MACHINERY IS ALSO OUTLINED. /FG/RRL/
