USE OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS FOR PREVENTING ROADS FROM SANDING UP (IN FRENCH)

IN ORDER TO PREVENT ROADS FROM SANDING UP IN DESERTS, A TECHNIQUE HAS BEEN USED WHICH CONSISTS IN STABILIZING SAND WITH PETROLEUM BY-PRODUCTS. SUITABLE PRODUCTS AND LAYING TECHNIQUES WERE SELECTED FOLLOWING STUDIES IN THE LABORATORY AND IN BLOWER AND STABILIZATION TESTS IN THE SAHARA DESERT. A SECTION OF ROAD, 1 KM-LONG, WAS EFFECTIVELY PROTECTED AGAINST SANDING UP FOR A PERIOD OF 2 YEARS. THIS METHOD COULD BE APPLIED ON A LARGE SCALE RESULTING IN LOWER-COST MAINTENANCE AND IMPROVED SERVICES FOR ROAD USERS.
