SOIL-CEMENT ROADS: EXPERIMENTS WITH FLY ASH

TO ENABLE THE EFFECTS OF THE FLY ASH TO BE DETERMINED, TWO MAIN SERIES OF TRIALS WERE CARRIED OUT: FOR THE FIRST, THE TOTAL QUANTITY OF ADDITIVE (CEMENT AND FLY ASH) WAS KEPT CONSTANT AND THE RATIO OF FLY ASH TO CEMENT VARIED. FOR THE SECOND SERIES OF TRIALS, THE RATIO OF CEMENT TO SOIL WAS KEPT CONSTANT AND THE PERCENTAGE OF FLY ASH VARIED. FLY ASH DOES NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THE STRENGTH OF THE SOIL OR A SOIL- CEMENT MIX, AND IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO SUBSTITUTE FLY ASH FOR CEMENT IN SOIL-CEMENT. THE QUALITY OF THE MIX IS NOT IMPROVED BY THE ADDITION OF FLY ASH TO THE SOIL.
