Hot mix recycling of asphalt pavement in taiwan
In recent years, the impending world problem of scarce natural resources has become a matter of vital concern in taiwan, the republic of China. Material shortages and rising costs in highway construction have been felt throughout the country. Recycling of the valuable materials is considered to be the best way of conserving limited resources. A case study of a provincial highway rehabilitation project with central hot mix recycling at feng-shan city in southern taiwan is presented in this paper. Assessments of the existing pavement quality resulted in selecting a mix of 60 per cent salvaged 40 per cent virgin blend. The mix design was essentially based on the procedures suggested by the asphalt institute and the pacific coast user producer group in USA with some modifications. The product was found to be satisfactorily meeting normal quality standards. The finished pavement performs very favourably and the recycling process was proved to be a total success. The hot mix recycling is promising and will play an important role in the construction of asphalt pavement in taiwan in the near future (a).
