THE CONSOLIDATION OF SOFT CLAY - A NEW CONSOLIDATION THEORY AND ITS APPLICATION

BASED ON RESULTS OF CONSOLIDATION TESTS DURING THE STABILIZATION OF SOFT FILL CLAY, A MORE GENERAL EQUATION OF CONSOLIDATION WAS ESTABLISHED BECAUSE OF THE INAPPLICABILITY OF THE TERZAGHI THEORY. IT EMPLOYS COMPRESSION STRAIN IN PLACE OF EXCESS PORE PRESSURE OF THE TERZAGHI EQUATION. THE NEW THEORY AND FIELD MEASUREMENTS ARE IN SATISFACTORY AGREEMENT. /AUTHOR/
