Study on sisal ash as filler in bituminous mixes
Sisal is a fibrous material which is produced in tanzania for different uses. The waste product of the sisal industry in the form of ash has been tried as a filler material in bituminous mixes, in this investigation conducted in the laboratories of highway and transportation engineering, university of dar es salaam, dar es salaam, tanzania. The experimental work involved preparing and testing of marshall test specimens using the different percentages of the three fillers sisal ash, rock dust and cement, with varying amounts of bitumen content. The optimum filler and bitumen contents, satisfying the marshall design criteria were established for the three types of filler used. The results obtained for sisal ash (SA) as the filler are reported in this paper and are quite encouraging when compared with the other fillers. Areas for further research in this field are also included (a).
