Stabilising method for cut slope by reinforcement bars

An in situ soil reinforcing method for stabilising cut slopes is described. The system of this method uses comparatively short steel bars and wiremesh reinforced shotcrete. This paper presents its principle, the execution process and an example of actual application with observed results. The basic principle is to form a solid reinforced zone of soil by applying steel reinforcements in natural ground to withstand external forces. This method was actually applied to a steep slope above a tunnel portal, and it was observed that the reinforced soil block acted like a retaining wall to restrain slide of the ground due to tunnel excavation (a).
