MODULUS OF ELASTICITY AND YIELD STRESS OF COMPACTED SOIL SUBJECTED TO REPEATED STRESS APPLICATION

AFTER APPLYING UNIAXIAL COMPRESSIVE STRESS TO COMPACTED SOIL SPECIMEN REPEATEDLY AT A CERTAIN NUMBER OF TIMES /MAX. UP TO 100,000/, SOME UNI- AND TRI-AXIAL COMPRESSION TEST ARE CONDUCTED BY THE STRESS CONTROL METHOD. BASED UPON THE BE- HAVIOR OF SPECIMEN UNDER REPEATED STRESS APPLICATION, A RHEOLOGICAL MODEL IS OBTAINED. A SIMPLE METHOD IS DEVELOPED FOR DETERMINING THE MODULUS OF ELASTICITY AND YIELD STRESS OF SOIL BY COMPARING THE CHARACTERISTICS OF MODEL WITH THE RELATION BETWEEN STRESS AND RATE OF STRAIN IN COMPRESSION TEST. FURTHER SOME INVESTIGATIONS ARE MADE ON THE EFFECTS OF KINDS OF SOIL, MOISTURE RATIO, COMPACTION DENSITY, REPEATED STRESS APPLICATION AND LOADING TIMES UPON THE MODULUS OF ELASTICITY AND YIELD STRESS AND EFFECT OF LATERAL PRESSURE UPON THE YIELD STRESS. /RRL/A/
