Fatigue of tempcore reinforcing bars - the effect of galvanizing

Constant cycle fatigue tests were carried out in air on normal and galvanized tempcore reinforcing bars. The results indicate that galvanizing of tempcore bars reduces the fatigue strength. The reduction in fatigue strength increases as the bar diameter decreases. Besides a reduction in fatigue strength, galvanizing does not significantly affect other properties such as tensile strength, microhardness and microstructure (a).
