LIME TREATMENT AT DEPTH

THE FIELD EVALUATION WAS MADE OF TWO METHODS FOR IN-PLACE STABILIZATION OF SOILS: (1) INJECTION OF LIME SLURRY FROM A HIGH PRESSURE NOZZLE, AND (2) PLACEMENT OF LIME IN PREVIOUSLY DRILLED HOLES. EVALUATION PROCEDURES INCLUDED: LIME CONTENT DETERMINATION, PI, PH AND SHRINKAGE LIMIT, OF DISTURBED AND UNDISTURED SAMPLES FOR THE PRESSURE INJECTION PROJECT AND PH, PI, GRAIN SIZE, CALCIUM CONTENT AND R-VALUE OF DISTURBED SAMPLES AND VANE SHEAR TESTS FOR UNDISTURBED SAMPLES FOR THE DRILL-HOLE LIME PROJECT. IN ADDITION, DEFLECTION AND ELEVATION MEASUREMENTS WERE MADE ON THE DRILL-HOLE LIME PROJECT TO DETERMINE IF TREATMENT AFFECTED SETTLEMENT. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDED THAT THE PRESSURE INJECTION METHOD WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL, AND THAT NO SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT OCCURRED AFTER ONE YEAR DUE TO TREATMENT WITH LIME IN DRILLED HOLES. /AUTHOR/
