A SURVEY OF LITERATURE-ELECTROOSMOSIS

THE OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY IS TO DETERMINE THE ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY OF USING ELECTROOSMOSIS TO STABILIZE SATURATED FINE GRAIN SOIL FOUNDATIONS FOR EMBANKMENTS. REPORTS DEALING WITH ELECTROOSMOSIS WERE REVIEWED WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE FOLLOWING CONSIDERATIONS' /1/ LABORATORY AND FIELD GEOMETRIC PARAMETERS E.G., SHAPE, SPACING AND DEPTHS OF ELECTRODE PLACEMENT /2/ WAYS OF EVALUATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ELECTROOSMOSIS, E.G., ENERGY CONSUMPTION, COMPARISON OF AMOUNTS AND RATES OF WATER DRAINAGE, CHANGES IN MOISTURE CONTENT WITH RESPECT TO TIME AND TREATMENT /3/ BENEFITS OF ELECTROOSMOSIS USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH OTHER METHODS OF SOIL TREATMENT, E.G., SURCHARGES AND SAND DRAINS /4/ EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT SOIL TYPES ON THE EFFICIENCY OF ELECTROOSMOTIC TREATMENT AND /5/ REVIEW OF VARIOUS THEORIES WHICH CAN BE USED TO PREDICT THE INCREASE IN DRAINAGE RESULTING FROM ELECTROOSMOTIC TREATMENT. /AUTHOR/
